Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a public speech writer. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which provides commentary and videos on depictions of women's roles in popular cultural. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian as well as an American feminist media critic. She is the author and director of executive for Feminist Frequency an educational, non-profit website which explores representations of women in popular stories of culture. Destroying stereotypes about women are her main focus. However, Sarkeesian also highlights issues related to targeted harassment against women online and for other groups which have been left out. Sarkeesian also holds a York University master's in social, political and philosophical thought. Alongside being a popular public speaker, she's given presentations at TEDxWomen The XOXO Conference as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Since her early years she was intrigued with gender issues and feminist thought. As a student, in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency website. Someone who hoped to create a web series that examined the gender representation of video games was targeted in the internet campaign. The incident did not deter her, rather it strengthened her determination as feminist media critic. To honor the numerous contributions she has made to feminism, she is the recipient of numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her efforts as a critique of the media, and she founded Feminist Frequency. The nonprofit investigates women's representation in popular culture of today.
